Light is made of tiny waves, and blue light is a type of visible light that has a short wavelength and relatively high energy. It comes from all sorts of things, both natural and man-made. Blue light from the sun helps our bodies know that it’s daytime, time to be awake and alert! But what happens when you’re seeing blue light long after the sun has set, from something like a phone screen?

Using screens in the evening may affect our natural sleep-wake cycle because our eyes and brains respond to light from screens much like they respond to daylight. This is where blue light coatings come in.

These coatings act as filters, absorbing or reflecting some blue light while allowing other visible light to pass through. When combined with an anti-reflective coating, they can also help reduce distracting glare from digital screens. For people who spend a lot of time on digital devices, a blue light coating may be an option to consider for everyday visual comfort.

DES (Digital Eye Strain) affects around 70% of adults, with so much of our lives revolving around screens like the one you’re reading this on now, causing symptoms such as headaches, red, dry, irritated eyes, light sensitivity, and blurred vision. Blocking the irritating effects of electronics with a blue light coating gives the eyes relief from daily exposure, making digital life less of a strain!
