Field Service Engineer

Quantum Innovations, Inc. is seeking qualified applicants to fill three positions available for Field Service Engineer to provide technical service and support for equipment within the ophthalmic industry. These new positions will join our Technical Support Team which is dedicated to minimizing downtime and generating lifelong relationships with our customers, suppliers, and employees.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position requires a background knowledge of electronics, elecro-mechanical controls, and pneumatic controls. Preferably in a manufacturing, or industrial setting. Travel on short notice is required once training has been completed, and is a core component of this position.

This is not an Information Technology related position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide installation support, maintenance, modification and/or repair on various mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic sub-systems within a thin film vacuum coating system produced by Quantum and other manufacturers, both at customer site (optical laboratory) and internally.
  • Assess customer needs in regards to maintenance, spare parts, modernization, and improvement of processes and procedures.
  • Provide customer training.
  • Commissioning of vacuum coating equipment and scientific analysis systems.
  • Promote Quantum customer service.
  • Help customers plan future service.
  • Travel within US & Canada (greater than 80-90% of total travel), occasional travel to Mexico (Less than 10%). Travel can often occur at short notice, but for a limited time (14 days or less).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2 year program in manufacturing engineering technology or equivalent, with emphasis on electric/electronics, automation.
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and other electrical control devices.
  • Prior knowledge of vacuum coating a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and pneumatic schematics required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deal directly with customers.
  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts, statistical process control and problem solving.
  • Self-motivated.

Thin Film Process Engineer

We are in the process of selecting a new team member from our current pool applicants, but are encouraging qualified individuals to submit application materials for future openings anticipated the latter half of 2015.

Quantum Innovations is seeking an experienced Thin Film Process Engineer to join our process group.

As a member of the process team, you will be responsible to install, test, evaluate and troubleshoot thin film coatings for Ophthalmic lenses.  These duties will be performed in our "in-house" facility and at our customer's facilities.  You will work as part of a team of self-motivated individuals who support an array of coatings in PVD vacuum deposition systems primarily in North America but occasionally as far away as China and India.

Your qualifications will include:

  • Experience in thin film optical coatings using vacuum deposition techniques.
  • Experience in using thin film design software such as Essential Macleod or FilmStar.
  • Implementation of thin films in vacuum deposition chambers using EB Gun, Ion Gun, Thermal Evaporation and Sputter techniques.
  • Evaluation and troubleshooting of thin film coatings.
  • Work closely with the Technical Service and R&D Teams to develop new products, implement changes and make improvements to better serve our customer base.
  • UV-Visible range Broad band Anti-reflective and mirror coating experience.
  • Establish operating parameters for new processes; conduct optimization experiments; establish best practices and procedures.
  • Conduct designed experiments to understand manufacturing processes and improve efficiencies.

Design Engineer

Quantum Innovations, Inc. is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a position of Design Engineer. This applicant is expected to have a minimum of five years of experience, and work with our Engineering team to perform complex and diverse technical assignments. This team member will use extensive knowledge and expertise in SolidWorks to work in the engineering department with design research, models, prototyping, testing, and follow-through for both new designs and existing products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Detailed design, modeling, and drawing completion for new and existing products.
  • Create and maintain Drawing files.
  • Assist the Engineering team in the Engineering Change (ECN) process to communicate and implement technical product changes efficiently and accurately.
  • Manage SolidWorks and possibly PDM.
  • Experience in engineering with GD&T, modeling practices, file management.
  • Create new and update existing drawings and tolerances to industry standards, including research of technical specifications.
  • Help organize projects, updating project tasks and compiling Bills of Materials.
  • Assist Purchasing as needed to update specifications and clarify requirements.
  • Document technical specifications and organize data for new products and programs, including revision of drawings and technical construction files.
  • Conduct research that will lead to future innovations.
  • Be familiar and fully conversant with department and company policies, procedures and processes.
